AussieInvoice vs Xero

Xero is the better choice if you need bookkeeping — bank feeds, reconciliation, BAS lodgement, payroll — or if your accountant requires it. AussieInvoice only handles the invoice lifecycle, so it costs far less but leaves the ledger to you. If you already pay an accountant to do your books, you may be paying Xero for features you never open.

What is Xero?

Xero is the default accounting platform for Australian small business, supported by nearly every local accountant and bookkeeper. Invoicing is one module inside a full ledger that also covers bank feeds, reconciliation, GST and BAS lodgement, payroll with Single Touch Payroll, and Peppol e-invoicing.

Plans run roughly $35 to $130 per month including GST depending on tier, with an announced increase from 1 July 2026. Confirm the current figure on Xero's own pricing page before relying on it. Pricing checked ; see Xero pricing for the current figure.

Which should you choose?

Choose Xero if…

  • You need bank feeds, reconciliation, or a general ledger.
  • You lodge BAS from your software rather than from reports.
  • You have employees, or expect to, and need Single Touch Payroll.
  • Your accountant or bookkeeper works in Xero and wants direct access.
  • You want your customers to pay by card from a link on the invoice.
  • You need to send or receive invoices over the Peppol network.

Choose AussieInvoice if…

  • Invoicing is the only part you actually need software for.
  • Your accountant handles the books, so a ledger you never open is wasted spend.
  • You want the issued invoice to be a fixed record, not an editable draft.
  • You want ABNs verified against the ABR as you enter them.
  • You would rather be paid by bank transfer than lose a percentage to card fees.
