Is there invoicing software that doesn't process payments?

Yes. AussieInvoice puts your bank payment instructions on the invoice and never handles your customers' money, so there is no transaction fee and no percentage taken from what you are owed. You record payments yourself when they land. The trade-off is that customers cannot pay by card from a link.

What do payment links actually cost?

Card and 'pay now' links on invoices are typically priced as a percentage of the invoice plus a fixed amount per transaction. On B2B invoices — where amounts run to hundreds or thousands of dollars and the customer was always going to pay by bank transfer anyway — that percentage is charged on money that did not need to move through a card network.

For a business invoicing a handful of commercial clients each month on 14- or 30-day terms, the convenience is worth very little and the fee is charged on every dollar.

For consumer-facing or on-the-spot work, the calculation reverses: a payment link genuinely gets you paid sooner, and sooner is worth a percentage.

How do you get paid without a payment link?

The invoice carries your bank payment instructions — the account details you have saved as a payment method — along with the invoice number as the reference.

Your customer pays by bank transfer, which for Australian B2B is the normal path regardless of what else is on the invoice. The money goes directly from them to you, with no intermediary and no clearing delay beyond the bank's own.

When it lands, you record the payment against the invoice. AussieInvoice keeps that as an append-only ledger, so the payment history of an invoice is a record rather than a mutable status field.

What is the downside?

You reconcile manually. Nothing watches your bank account and ticks invoices off; you record each payment when you see it. For a handful of invoices a month that is a couple of minutes. For fifty a week it is a job, and you want bank feeds — which means an accounting platform like Xero or MYOB.

You also lose the mild collection benefit of a one-click payment. Some customers do pay faster when paying is easier.

And it means AussieInvoice cannot help with chasing money in the way a payments product can. It records what happened; it does not move funds.

Who should choose invoicing without payment processing?

It suits B2B service businesses invoicing on terms: consultants, contractors, agencies, professional services. Your clients pay by transfer, invoice values are high enough that a percentage is real money, and volume is low enough that manual reconciliation is trivial.

It suits poorly if you sell to consumers, invoice on the spot, or have enough volume that matching payments by hand becomes the bottleneck. In those cases a tool with Tap to Pay or a hosted payment page earns its fee.
